Thomas Stilwell Lamont II, Groton, MA

After graduation I worked full time in the music business with a
band that I started at Harvard called The Not. Somehow we ended up in the
middle of the hardcore punk rock scene that was prominent at the time.
We toured the U.S. and Canada several times, playing with obscure but
outstanding bands such as Husker Du, the Minutemen, DOA, and The Damned.

A few of our classmates actually saw us play, including some folks in
San Francisco who tried to shock the punk rock crowd by wearing LL Bean and
J. Crew. My band recorded and produced two short records (on vinyl) and
two cassettes which were sold all over the country as well as abroad,
receiving favorable reviews and even a mention in Rolling Stone. Our
sales were miniscule, however, and after three years of losing money and
sleep, inhaling ten years worth of second hand smoke, and eating cans of
spaghetti and lots of peanut butter, the Not called it a day. As my
best friend tells me, we were just too far ahead of the times. You can judge
for yourself by checking out our web site on which you can download our

After fumbling my way through interviews trying to explain what
I had been doing for three years, I landed a job teaching at Nobles and
Greenough School in Dedham, MA. From there I went to work at PolyPrep
in Brooklyn, New York.

In New York I married my longtime sweetheart, Bobbi Silber, who is from Tenafly, NJ. We first met in 1981 while both attending Harvard Summer School and living next door to each other in Quincy House. We ended up in England two years later where I earned a masters degree in History from Cityplace Oxford and somehow won a varsity "Blue" in ice hockey. Our oldest child, Ben was born in Oxford in 1990.

In 1996 we returned to Newport, RI, where I taught at St. George's
School for six years and Bobbi gave birth to two more sons, Adam and Johnny.
Our family finally landed at Groton School in Groton, MA, where I have been
teaching for ten years. This past year we have been in India enjoying
my sabbatical. You can learn about our experiences in India by logging
